Facebook has a huge database of almost all your photos, videos and other information. Sometimes we become so addicted that as soon as we take a picture, we simply hit the share button and it’s gone to facebook. yeah, l do that all the time lol. The result, you end up creating albums and everything on facebook. Well, if you are someone who doesn’t need any other life apart from Facebook, it will not matter to you to have copies of your photos and pictures stored on your personal computer in case the device you used to take those pictures is now non functional or it’s missing. There are some applications you can use to download your photos and videos but l don’t think most of them are available no more so I’m going to describe a traditional procedure already available on Facebook that you can use to download all your stuff at once without having to go through each picture or video and hitting the download link one at a time. In fact, that will be too much work especially people who have more than thousand pictures on Facebook will use a whole week to download their data one by one. This procedure l’m talking about is already on Facebook but it’s likely some of us never pay attention to things on Facebook apart from pictures and status updates so l’m trying to just point it out and explain how to use it.
These are the things you will get in your download when you use this procedure I’m about to describe.
1.Any photos or videos you’ve shared on Facebook
2.Your Wall posts, messages and chat conversations
3.Your friends’ names and some of their email addresses(if your friend allowed it to be public)
4. Your profile information
5. Notes you have written on Facebook
6. Events you have RSVP ‘ed
There are the things you will not get in your download using this procedure
1.Your friends’ photos and status updates
2.Other people’s personal information
3.Comments you’ve made on other people’s posts
4. Things you and your friends liked
Now, here goes the procedure that will get you access to all the above described data.
1. Log into your facebook account
2. Click on “Account” at the far left top corner of your home page
3. Click on “Account Settings” from the drop down menu that shows up.
4. In the account settings page, you’ll see “Download a copy of your facebook data” link. if you can’t see this link, click on the general tab at the top right corner( located under “facebook” on this page). Click on the “Download a copy” link at the bottom of the window that contains the link to all your various information on Facebook.
5. You will be sent to another page with this title
Download Your Information
Get a copy of what you’ve shared on Facebook.
6. Click on the button to downlod an archive of all your information.
7. The request will be pending as facebook generates an archive of all your information. You’ll be informed through your email when the archive has been completely generated and you can now download all that information in single file. The archive creation takes sometime so you have to relax and wait on facebook servers to complete it and send you an email when it’s done.
8. Once you’ve received the email, click on the link in the email to take you to the place to download the archive.
9. Enter your facebook password and press enter.
10. Click on Download Archive
12. You archive will down to your computer, you can select where to store it on your computer but by default, it may be stored in your download folder on the computer.
13. After download is complete, open directory containing the archive. The archive usually have your facebook username as the file name and it’s stored in a .zip format. that means it’s compressed so you have to decompress it before accessing the files in it. You can the free 7zip software or winzip or any archiving softwere to decompress the file.
14. Once you have decompressed the file, open it to access all our facebook data locally on your computer.
Now you have all your information, pictures and photos stored locally on your computer which you can use for anything without the need to go to facebook every time you want to look at a picture or simply send a picture to someone. Remember, downloading doesn’t mean deleting, so when you dowload, there is still all the information available on facebook, if you intend to delete your information rather, you have to go through the account and delete option. Also, new photos and information you have updated on facebook will not automatically be updated on your computer so the next time you think you need to get more information, you have to repeat the above procedure to get the current update of the data on Facebook.
